How to connect an IP Phone

The IP phone (3) is connected to a wall socket (1) via a UTP network cable (2), which is in turn connected to an ICT switch (6). This switch may provide both data and power connectivity. Multiple computers (4) in the room are connected through a small unmanaged switch (8), which in turn is connected to the phone's "PC" port. 

Such a connection is only allowed when a direct connection of the IP phone to the ICT switch is not possible. The first IP phone (3 – left) connects to the wall socket (1) via UTP cable (2), which leads to the ICT switch (6) providing either data or power connectivity. The second IP phone (3 – right) connects from its "SW" port to the "PC" port of the first phone. On the second phone, you must manually configure the VOICE VLAN setting. The second phone requires an external power adapter (7). Multiple computers (4) are connected via network UTP cable (2) to an unmanaged switch (8), which is connected to the second phone's "PC" port. 

Use this configuration only if a direct connection to the ICT switch is not available. All IP phones (3) connect via their "SW" ports to an unmanaged switch (8 – left), which is connected to the wall socket via network UTP cable (2). All phones must be powered using external adapters (7). Multiple computers (4) are connected via network UTP cable (2) to another unmanaged switch (8 – right), which is connected to one of the IP phones (3) through the "PC" port. 

1. The port is used to connect an external power adapter (7). This must be used if the switch to which the IP phone is connected does not support PoE (Power over Ethernet).
2. The SW port is used to connect to the TUNET computer network – to a switch (6) managed by the Insitute of Computing Technology (ICT), typically with PoE support.
3. The PC port is used to connect additional network devices – such as unmanaged switches (8), other IP phones (3), or computers (4).
