Network Infrastructure
The Foundation of a Digital University

The Technical University of Košice is considered one of the most advanced university network infrastructures in Slovakia. Since 2009, the high-performance computer network TUNET has been developed and expanded, serving as the backbone of the university’s digital environment, thanks to strategic investments from EU funds.
There is a central data center equipped with powerful routers capable of handling transmission capacities of several terabits per second (Tbps). High availability and reliability are ensured through a backup data center that immediately takes over operations in the event of a failure without any service disruption to users.
Distributed network nodes across university buildings are interconnected by optical links with transmission speeds of up to 100 Gbps. This ensures fast and seamless connectivity for study spaces, offices, IP telephony, and research labs. With more than 11,000 active ports and over 350 professional Cisco switches, the network provides both stability and scalability to support future technological growth.
The TUNET network is connected to the Slovak academic data network, SANET, via a next-generation firewall, providing secure and fast internet access, as well as connectivity with other universities and institutions. Additionally, the university hosts a node of the national peering center SIX (Slovak Internet eXchange), which enhances the speed and stability of data traffic across Slovakia.
