TUNET Computer Network
IP Addresses
Every network device (such as a computer, notebook, network printer, or network drive) connected to the TUNET Computer Network (hereafter referred to as TUNET CN) must be registered in the TUNET IP address database.
An IP address is a unique number assigned to each device that communicates using the Internet Protocol (IP).
Example of an IP address within TUNET in Košice: 147.232.XXX.XXX, in Prešov – 193.87.XXX.XXX.
IP addresses in TUNET CN are assigned automatically by a DHCP server, which consistently assigns the same IP address to a registered device based on its MAC address. The MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to every network device at the time of manufacture (network card). It is displayed in a 12-digit hexadecimal format, separated by colons – e.g., 00:90:96:1F:D3:FC.
Device Registration in TUNET CN (Košice)
To register a device, you must provide:
User identification:
- Full name, Unique login (e.g., ab123xy)
Device identification:
To register your device (PC, laptop, or printer) in the TUNET device database, please complete the web form MAC Registration and IP Address Request. Click the link, log in, and fill in the required details.
The request is sent to the ICT Helpdesk, and your device will be registered in the TUNET CN database. Once registered, it will receive an IP address and gain access to the Internet via the university network.
Changing Registered Information
If you need to update any information regarding an already registered device (e.g., update user, device location change, computer/motherboard/network card replacement) or to cancel a registration, fill out the Device Data Update Request. Click the link, log in, and submit the changes.
Deregistration of Inactive Devices
The range of IP addresses allocated for PS TUNET is limited; therefore, it is necessary to regulate the number of registered devices to ensure optimal utilization. Active devices are checked at regular intervals.
If a device has not been active on the network for over a year, it will be deregistered and its IP address reassigned.
If your device has not been turned on or connected to a computer network for a long time and it says that it has no network connection, check whether its registration has been cancelled. Send an email with the device details to ipadresy@helpdesk.tuke.sk.
Registration will also be cancelled for a device whose responsible person (user) ceases to be an employee of TUKE, even if the computer is used by someone else without re-registration.
To register a network device in TUNET CN Prešov, it is necessary to contact the Faculty Computing Center FVT in Prešov.
Operational Guidelines
The user is fully responsible for the device and their activities in computer networks, which they access via TUNET CN. The connected device, considering its type and purpose, must be protected against malicious software (antivirus program, firewall).
The user may not perform any activity on the network that would prevent other users from using the network properly, e.g., by overloading network elements, spreading computer viruses, or attempting unauthorized access to network elements.
Suppose the network administrator determines that a connected device is infected with a virus, is engaging in illegal activity (such as spam), or is overloading the network for an extended period. In that case, the device will be immediately disconnected from the TUNET CN until the issue is resolved.
Instructions for using and installing antivirus programs can be found on the website https://uvt.tuke.sk/sk/antivirusovy‑system
For the proper and secure operation of the TUNET CN, it is not permitted to expand the network by connecting your WiFi routers, switches, and hubs. The establishment of such connections is exclusively within the competence of the ICT. If a faculty or department is interested in expanding the network (also applicable to WiFi), it can purchase suitable and recommended equipment in agreement with the ICT. The ICT will then provide configuration, licensing, and central management according to the requirements. You can find out more about the options by sending an email with a request to the address dispecing@helpdesk.tuke.sk
